Viking Industrial Painting (V.I.P.) was established in 2001 in Northern Iowa as an industrial tank painting company specializing in the Water Tower Industry. For over 17 years Viking has actively worked with engineers, third-party inspectors, and tank owners to renovate and protect steel tanks. V.I.P. has also worked with tank maintenance providers and new tank fabricators performing the field painting portion of the tank construction process.

Viking Industrial Painting has invested in our team on both the Sales and the Operational sides of our company to ensure our customers are taken care of from initial consultation to the completion of thei project. We are NACE Certified Coating Inspectors - Level 3, SSPC-Lead Paint Removal (C3) Certified experts, and we work closely with AWWA to stay current with the ever-changing water industry. We sit on several of the National AWWA Tank Standard committees to help educate tank owners with best practices on how to maintain and operate their steel water storage tanks. Rory grew up in the industrial painting business as his father both worked and then owned an industrial painting business for many years. Rory worked with his father to learn the business before leaving home to attend Bellevue University. After college Rory worked and then became part owner of a firm representing and distributing Tnemec Coatings in Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota. Rory worked closely with engineers, contractors, and owners to ensure proper surface prep and coating specification/application with Tnemec for over 12 years before deciding to specialize in the water tank industry.
John has worked in the tank maintenance business since 2002. He has held positions from a local Sales Representative to all levels of Sales Management. John is a NACE Level 3 Coatings Inspector and works with AWWA on a National level for both the D101 Tank Inspection Standard and the M42 Tank Reference guide. He has provided training on a National Level and with many State AWWA and Rural Water Associations, educating people about the importance of Tank Maintenance and Water Quality. John attended Pittsburg State University and served in the United States Marines Corp before starting in the tank industry.
Director of Operations
Ben is a graduate of the University of Sioux Falls and a construction professional with nine years of experience. He has served in multiple capacities in the water storage industry including field work, construction management, quality control, and project supervision. Ben uses sound communication skills to keep information flowing and projects on track. He is both NACE-Certified Coating Inspector Level 3 and SSPC-Lead Paint Removal (C3) Certified. Having a proven record of providing effective quality control and a firm approach to problem solving, he quickly wins respect from subcontractors and field crews alike. Ben is passionate about efforts to continuously improve upon and streamline business practices while simultaneously respecting the product, craft, and people involved with executing it.
Business Development Manager
Since graduating college in 1997 Carter has worked in the water tank industry. He started out with Pittsburgh Des Moines Steel (PDM) and has since worked for two other tank erection companies. With over 23 years of experience he will be a great asset to Viking and our customers. Carter resides in Ankeny, IA with his wife and two children. He also sits on the AWWA D102 Coating Steel Water Storage Tanks committee and has presented for STI/SPFA - Steel Tank Seminars across the country. Field Representative - Iowa & Nebraska
Upon graduation from St. Cloud State University in central Minnesota, Brandon began his career with the Sherwin Williams Paint Company. He held several positions over 17 years with Sherwin Williams, including Store Manager, Professional Coatings Sales Representative, and Protective and Marine Coatings Sales Representative. In 2016, Brandon and his family moved to Sioux Falls, SD where he began working specifically in the water tank maintenance industry, working primarily with municipalities and rural water districts in the upper Midwest. Brandon is a NACE Level 2 Coatings Inspector and enjoys consulting with his clients to help ensure they provide quality water to their residents through a well-maintained water storage tank. Brandon is our field representative for Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota.
Field Representative - Kansas & Missouri
Rick began working in the coatings industry upon graduation from Kansas State University. He started his career with the Sherwin-Williams Co. in South Central Kansas and held numerous positions over 10 years including Operations Manager, Professional Coatings Representative and Industrial Coatings Representative. In 1999 he began working for a firm representing the Tnemec Co. in Kansas. For the next 18 years he consulted with contractors, engineers, and owners in the industrial coatings industry, with an emphasis in the water tank market. Since 2017, Rick has been working specifically in the water tank maintenance market in Kansas and Oklahoma. Rick has been active in numerous professional organizations over the years including being a member of Kansas Rural Water for the last 20 years. He completed his NACE Level III training in 1996. Rick lives in Hesston, Kansas and will be covering Kansas and Missouri for Viking.
Field Representative - Oklahoma & Arkansas
Nick is from a big family. As number 7 of 8, born and raised in Kansas he is a typical hard working midwestern guy. Upon high school graduation Nick started working for Sedgwick County Rural Water District #3. The following year he became a certified Kansas rural water operator. While working as their water operator, Nick attended night classes to earn his double major in Marketing and Management from Wichita State University. Nick's vast experience, work ethic, and personality make him a great part of the Viking team. Nick's goal is to share his year of experience to make the process of getting your water tank in prime operating condition and looking great.
If he happens to not answer when you call you may find him at the helm of his 22-foot sailboat enjoying a midwestern summer night.
Field Representative - Illinois & Iowa
Tom has over 50 years in the tank industry. Starting out building tanks in 60's for Water Tower Paint and Repair he soon moved on to supervisory & sales roles with the company. He worked for them for 35 years until they were bought out. From there Tom went on to be a Sales Representative in the water tank industry for 15 years retiring in 2018. Since Tom is not one to sit still he decided to come out of retirement and join us at Viking as our Illinois and Iowa field representative. Tom resides in Northern Iowa with his lovely wife Mary. Together they have two sons and 6 grandchildren.
Luan was born in raised in Vietnam. He moved to the United States and attended college at South Dakota State University where he graduated in 2015. Upon graduation Luan started as a project coordinator in the water tank industry. Viking was lucky to have him join our team in 2018 as our project manager. Luan works closely with Ben to ensure all tank projects are completed in a timely manner, to specification, and meeting our customers expectations. Luan lives in Sioux Falls with his family.
Monte started working in the Industrial painting business in 1986 in Minnesota. He blasted and painted for a contractor for 10 years before deciding to start his own tank painting business with a partner in 1996. They owned and operated this business for 5 years until Monte decided to move to Northern Iowa and start Viking Industrial Painting in 2001. Monte owned and operated Viking as a successful company for many years before selling his company to John and Rory. Monte will continue to provide solid operational support to ensure a smooth transition and plans to stay on for several years.
Serena began her career with the Kiewit Corporation in 2001 working with subcontractors, bonding agents, and insurers validating and maintaining compliance with contractual obligations to both prime and sub-tier contracts. With full command of the contracts typically executed, she went on to work as the business manager handling all transactional accounting and operational reporting for multiple successful vertical building projects in the Nebraska area including the TD Ameritrade Ballpark and several Nebraska Medicine locations. Serena progressively advanced her career in business management becoming the Area Business Controller for the largest region in Kiewit’s vertical building segment. After a brief departure from the industry, Serena decided to get back to her roots and join Viking. Serena keeps Viking running efficiently working closely with staff, contractors, customers to ensure everyones needs are met. When she is not taking care of everyone at Viking she's supporting her two daughters in all their activities.
Sales & Marketing Coordinator
Aimee is a graduate of Capella University with a degree in Business Administration. She started her career path as a tax accountant in Minneapolis. Simultaneously her husband, Brandon (see above) were also the owners and operators of an adult foster care home where they cared for 3 elderly gentlemen in their home. When they had their first son Aimee decided to put her career in tax accounting on hold and stay home to raise their two boys. In 2014 Aimee and her family moved to South Dakota for a new opportunity. When her youngest started school in 2019 Aimee decided it was time to pursue a new adventure. She works closely with our Field Representatives, John, and Rory to ensure customer relationships are cultivated.
