POSITION: Water Tank Welder – Traveling

POSITION SUMMARY:
Viking Industrial Painting is a leader in the water tank maintenance, repair, and coatings in the Midwest region and expanding across the United States, with project locations extending from Northern Minnesota to Southern Texas, Florida to California.
As a Water Tank Welder, you will perform welding, cutting, fitting and assembly of steel components used in water storage tanks including elevated water towers. You will ensure welds meet required specifications, assist with material handling, maintain work areas, and adhere to safety and quality standards. This role will be field based which will include required travel from each project across the United States.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Read and interpret welding procedures, blueprints, drawings, plates, and structural components; follow fabrication and erection plans.
- Perform welding using flux-core, stick welding (SMAW), and other required processes on steel components in flat, vertical, and overhead positions.
- Fit, align, and tack plates and structural members; correct malformations such as bends, warpage, or distortion to meet tolerances.
- Operate flame-cutting, grinding, hand, and power tools to prepare weld joints and finish welds.
- Inspect welded work for defects or non-conformance to specifications; report findings as necessary.
- Follow welding codes, company procedures, and safety protocols, wearing required PPE at all times.
- Assist with material handling, job site clean-up, and general support tasks as needed.
- Climb scaffolding and work at heights (tanks up to 200 ft); perform work outdoors in variable weather conditions.
EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively.
- Experience with rigging and working at heights.
- Minimum 3 years of welding/fabrication experience, preferably in steel or tank construction.
- Manual dexterity, visual acuity, and physical stamina to weld in flat, vertical, and overhead positions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb, balance, stoop, and carry materials regularly.
- Strong attendance, reliability, and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Comfortable performing work outdoors in a field setting on scaffolding/towers under changing weather conditions.
- Exposure to welding fumes, noise, heat, sparks, and heavy steel components; strict adherence to safety protocols required.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
- Availability for overtime and extended hours as project schedules demand.
